Beginners Calligraphy
Try a fascinating new craft! Whether you are a complete novice or have some calligraphy experience - this day will bring out all of your creative talents!
Brief introduction to using nibs and quills. How the letter is formed - using inks and colours. Many practice scripts to choose from.
Learn more about gilding - the art of laying gold leaf as practiced by the medieval monks in their traditional illuminated manuscripts.
Your day will take you through all the various stages needed to create a gold leafed letter to take home mounted and framed.
No previous experience of lettering is necessary - we have everything you will need - including food and drink to keep you going!
Choose a letter from our traditional alphabet in the studio.
Jacky Silcox
Jacky has been commssioned by the National Trust to give tuition at Bodium Castle and to scribe gold leafed manuscripts for their records. She has had many requests for her work through her business Rowan Arts.
Our day classes include:

There are many calligraphy and watercolour painting books to refer to in the studio plus a gallery of framed, finished work.
